I promised I would upload these docs when I got them. I think these three are:
1. bylaws outline (bylaws_structure coms)1.doc: Tom's revision after our meeting last week with Margaret of the Structure committee.
2. bylaws outline (bylaws_structure coms)2.doc: Tom's revision after discussion via email.
3. union_structure_chart 2.doc: Margaret's revision of the structure chart, revised after our meeting last week.

Attached is the latest version of the UMBoston chapter by-laws-- still very much a work-in-progress.

However, as we get closer to finishing them, it becomes more crucial that we check in with our UMA brothers and sisters to make sure we are operating on the same page-- because some of our chapter stuff depends on what we agree to for our Amherst/Boston Council, as we have tentatively dubbed our version of the faculty's Joint Coordinating Committee.

So, Amherst folks, as well as Boston folks, please look over both the atached document and the one I posted earlier (Draft JCC By-laws, posted April 11)

Right -- sort of.

We have been operating on the assumption that the 2 campuses would be chapters of 1 local, more or less as we were in 509-- except that the local would just be the 2 chapters, not a humongous SEIU-style local with dozens of chapters.

This is the model that the faculty union on the 2 campuses use. So we have been using the faculty union as a model, making whatever changes we thought appropriate to us as professional staff.

What is new and different to me in the faculty union model is that the "local" itself is a very weak body, just a coordinating committee, and most of the power and activity of the union takes place at the "chapter" level. So the document we put up is actually the by-laws for the "local" in the legal sense, but the real constitution/bylaws that will govern how we run our union(s) will be what we write up for our chapters.

So this document is supposed to be basically in addition to the constitution for the local, right?

Hi folks,

We here at Boston have made a first stab at drafting by-laws for an Amherst/Boston Council (ABC) that would function like the Joint Coordinating Committee of the faculty unins. In fact, the language is largely lifted from the faculty JCC's language, with some significant changes.  I will try to attach the draft to this message.

If it doesn't show up, contact me and I'll email it to you.
